Thiruvilakku Pooja (Aadi/August)
During the month of " Aadi" on the full moon day we have the Thiruviakku pooja. On this day after 2 pm 108 lamps are arranged in the hall adjacent to the memorial in order to facilitate the devotees. There is no constriction regarding the number of devotees sitting in front of the lamp. Priest who is well versed in the Vedic incantations come here and lead the pooja. we have the "Asthothra Namavali" incantation on god where in the invocation is felt vibrating throughout the place.
Brahmotsava (Kaarthiga/ December)
The biggest festival among those celebrated here is the Brahmotsava the one, which falls in the month of Kaarthiga.
This is a specially favored month of Sri Rangammal. On this day the utsavamurti is taken out in a procession in the temple car. Beating the drums, hoisting the flag of the deity, inviting the deity to the avahana establishing kalasas are some of the festival.The whole ratha and deity are elegantly decorated and the procession with its music, lights, crackers and entertainment becomes very attractive.
The devotees who want to visit the altar, is expected to observe a certain code of conduct. Not to Smoke, Drink or eat Non Vegetarian, Taking bath, wearing freshly washed clothes is a must. It and when possible this should be done in the Pushkarini attached to the holy-place.
Pathayatra (Pilgrimage on foot): There are devotees who go to the memorial on bare feet their starting point being Coimbatore. The traveling distance approximately within 80 to 90 kilometres.This is the 23rd year (in the year 2007) successfully devotees marching towards the deity on their pilgrimage. This is towards the ‘Chitra Pournami’ in the month of Chittirai (Month of April) Such a discipline has exercised an enormous influence in their lives. Such a pilgrimage has given them peace to the frustrated and troubled minds.
This pilgrimage is spread for four days. On the first day evening the devotees start at the early hours of the evening from the Coimbatore City and halt in the nights in the homes of those who invite them. The next day morning they again afresh begin their bare feet pilgrimage. On the fourth day evening they reach the Sri Rangammal memorial. Those people who invite the devotees provide them with sumptuous food and good rest and thereby experience satisfaction in this kind of hospitality. They take pride in exhibiting such gestures normally associated with good families. |
