| She lost her mother when she was six months
old .She was brought up with all love and affection by her father and
paternal grandmother. Even as a child,Sri Rangammal was interested in listening
to the stories from Puranas and Ithihasas. At this stage she once happened
to witness Goddess Renuka Devi in the form of a serpent.
When she was nine years old, she wanted her
father to re-marry, so that she will have a mother at home. Eventhough
her father refused initially, after great persuasion he latter married
Konamma from the Dugginnar family. In the beginning Konnama treated the
girl as her own child and looked after her in a motherly way. This cordial
relationship did not last long. The interference of 'Karma' is evident
here, at this stage of Sri Rangammal's life. The hard times of Sri Rangammal
began with every little action being found fault with.
During her critical times, she
prayed to goddess Renuka Devi and Angala Parameswari for moral support. In one
of her dreams, God appeared and told her
that the purpose of her birth was
not yet fulfilled and that she would always be by her side. After this, Sri
Rangammal gained confidence.
